The medal was issued to help fund the american freedom train that traveled around the country as part of this nation's bicentennial celebration. The freedom train carried a huge amoutn of original historical documents and memorabilia. The medal is 3 ni diameter. It was sculpted by marcel jovine and struck by the medallic art company. The front of the medal features an image of the freedom train as ti chugs across america. The back of the medal reads, bicentennial journey 1776-1976 and features a revolutionary soldier and an astronaut. The medal comes in the original box. Teh box does show some wear and darkening and has a small tear on the back.
The medal si in beautiful uncirculated condition and comes in a hard plastic holder. This is a great collectible medal for anyone interested in collecting bicentennial items, collectible medals, or train and locomotive memorabilia. ~~ ~~ ~~.
